Travel Information

Transportation between Haifa and the Airport

You will land in Ben Gurion Airport (BGA), Israel international airport.

BGA is located 110 km from Haifa, approx 1.5 hr.
Distance from Jerusalem: 50.4 km, approx 45 minutes.
Distance from Tel-Aviv: 19.4 km, approx 18 minutes.

The 3 means of transportation to and from the airport are:

  1. Train

    The train station at the airport operates 24 hours a day but NOT between about 14:00 on Friday afternoons and 21:00 on Saturday night .
    The relevant stations are:
    a. Ben-Gurion Airport
    b. Haifa-Hof HaCarmel

    BGA station is located on Level S of the Landside Building, adjacent to the Greeters' Hall.

    Train tickets can be purchased through automated ticket dispensers on Level G of the terminal.

    A one way ride to Haifa will cost you 35 NIS.
    A taxi from the Haifa-Hof Hakarmel station to one of the hotels or to the University of Haifa should cost about 45 NIS.

    Bus line number 46 will take you to the University of Haifa for about 6 NIS.
    Bus line number 3 will get you very close to your hotel.

  2. Private taxi

    The Taxi companies at Ben Gurion Airport operate under supervision of the Israel Airports Authority.
    The Taxi Stations and dispatcher's counter at Terminal 3 are located on Level G of the Multi Level Road.
    Taxis charge extra payment for luggage, extra persons or reservation by phone.

    We advise you to always ask the driver to use the taximeter.

  3. "Sherut" taxi ("Amal")

    "Amal" taxis that operate to and from the airport, are a shared van that will take you to your own hotel, for approx 65 NIS. It is a fixed fee (no meter).

 

Travel in the Haifa Area

Haifa has two main kinds of public transportation: Buses and "sherut" taxis (public vans which operate like buses and are numbered in the same way). Buses do not run after midnight.

From Hof HaCarmel Central train station to Dan Panorama hotel and Dan Carmel hotel:
Buses number 133, 3, 99.

From Dan Carmel hotel to the University of Haifa:
Bus or public taxi number 37.

From Dan Panorama hotel to the University of Haifa:
Bus number 37 or 30.

From Nof hotel to the University of Haifa:
Bus number 30.

To get to the University from your hotel, you can also use a private taxi that costs around 40 NIS.
